What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a powerful and ancient Japanese healing practice that works with the life force energy present in all living things. This energy is gentle, invisible, and vital, flowing through us to maintain balance and sustain life. When this energy becomes blocked or disruptedβ€”often due to stress, illness, or emotional turmoil - it can manifest as physical or emotional discomfort.

As Reiki practitioners, we are trained to channel this healing energy through our hands, either by gently touching or holding them just above the body. This process helps to release blockages, restore balance, and promote deep relaxation and healing on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

Reiki doesn’t require you to fully understand how it works for it to be effective. Simply being open to receiving the energy is all it takes. Most people describe the experience as deeply calming and rejuvenating, almost like a soothing massage for the soul. It’s a beautiful way to reconnect with your body’s natural healing ability and find a sense of inner peace and harmony.

What Can I Expect to Feel During a Reiki Session?

During a Reiki session, many clients experience a profound sense of deep relaxation. You may feel warmth, coolness, or a gentle buzzing or tingling sensation around your body. Some people may have an emotional release, such as tears or laughter, or even a physical reaction like coughing. On the other hand, some individuals may not feel anything in particular, and that's perfectly okay! The healing energy is still working, and each session can present itself in a unique way.

What Happens During a Reiki Session?

  • Warm Welcome – Upon entering our peaceful space at The Well House, you’ll be greeted with warmth, smiles, and positive energy. My goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where you can fully relax and be supported throughout your Reiki experience.

  • Introductions and Intentions – Before the healing begins, we’ll take a moment to set our intentions for the session. If there’s anything you’d like to focus on or any areas of concern, this is the time to share. I’ll also ask if you prefer hands-on or hands-off Reiki, tailoring the experience to your comfort.

  • Grounding – Together, we’ll take a few moments to ground ourselves using our breath. This helps us prepare mentally, physically, and spiritually for the healing process.

  • Comfortable Set Up – I’ll invite you to settle into a cosy spot where you can fully relaxβ€”whether that’s lying on a mat with blankets or sitting comfortably on a bolster or chair. The goal is to help you feel completely at ease, allowing you to fully receive the healing energy of Reiki.

  • Energy Flow – I’ll begin the session by using words and mantras to channel energy to the group as a whole. Then, I’ll work with each person individually, using my hands to guide the energy. This can involve gently placing my hands on areas of your body (such as your head, shoulders, or feet) or holding my hands above you, gently moving the energy. You may experience warmth, tingling sensations, or simply a deep sense of relaxation as the energy flows.

  • Inner Journey – As you drift deeper into relaxation, you may experience inner peace, clarity, or a sense of connection. Some clients report visualizations, insights, or emotional releasesβ€”each session offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery.

  • Savasana – I’ll gently guide the session to a close with more words and mantras, then invite you to rest in savasana (a period of stillness) to allow the healing energy to fully integrate.

  • Closing Reflection – After your rest, we’ll take a moment to reflect on the experience, allowing space for you to share any insights or sensations that arose during the session. This reflection helps you to absorb the healing energy and sets the stage for continued growth and well-being.

  • Community Connection – Finally, we’ll close the session with gratitude, appreciating the healing moment we’ve shared together. This is a beautiful opportunity to connect with others in the group and honor the collective energy.
